Getting ready to lift it! 1985 Runner

Ok, I have been piecing together a lift setup for my 1985 4 Runner. Going to be doing the install in about3 weeks.

I got a set of 4" TG front springs (47") and a 3.5" Super Lift Rear springs. I am going to be getting the Drop hanger for the front, the High Steer, the steering box brace, the U bolt flip kit frt & rear.

My question is - considering I got a helluva deal on the front and rears ($320 total including shipping) I need to put like a 2.5" lift shackle on the rear.

I don't know if the best thing is to run a small block or a 2.5" shackle increase. With the 4" front TG's and the drop hanger the total is 5" up front. Therefore on the Runner I need 6" in the back.

Whatcha all think would be the best bet??

Thanks!
John

shackle

i think you should do the shackle. i have blocks in my truck and i've already broken two leafs right in half. maybe its just a bad experience.

Never use blocks...except as ice cubes, building with Lego or putting your car up on them in the front yard when you are a redneck.

That's what I thought too. However I also have read that lift via shackle can twist the springs. So which is the lesser of the two evils? I want to go shackle, I just didn't know what length I needed to get the 2.5" over stock length. All the shackles I see are only 5-6" total in length and I measured my stockers and they are like 4".

What size shackle would I need then?

Thanks!

If you go crazy on the shackle...sure. Generally to get 2.5" of lift straight from the shackle alone, you need to add 5" on the shackle from bolt hole to bolt hole, but it is a little more complicated than that...cause it depends to on where you place the front hanger, rear spring length, etc. You'll just have to do some research and some experimentation probably.

Well, the rear's I bought are stock length, so they will bolt right in. Again, like I said earlier from my understanding the TG front 4" w/ drop hanger iwll be about 5", correct? Then the rears are 3.5" so to get 6" on the rear I would need a 2.5" shackle. The front hanger will remain and the springs already came with shims for the axle to be angled upon install. Additionally, the springs came with overload leafs so I can add some weight and not ride the tires on the wheel wells!

So, what you saying is to measure the stockers from bolt to bolt and not end to end?

Thanks Wabbit for the info too!

John
