fuel pump power issues
just did an engine swap on my 4runner, its an 85 with a 22re. everything seems to be working great and hooked up correctly (we labeled like crazy) but it won't start. we checked the timing and it is correct, we checked all the plugs multiple times and they seem to be plugged in the right ports along with hoses. we used a test light at the fuel pump and it was not getting any power. then we tried jumping the fuel pump directly to the battery and it still wouldnt work. i drove it into the garage so the fuel pump worked fine before so i doubt that its just a failed fuel pump. im moving tomorrow and need to be out so any ideas to try would be great im desperate!
so the main problem seems to be the fuel pump is not turning on when the key is turned to the "on" position. we made a fuel injector and sprayed gas directly into the intake manifold and it fired up just fine but wouldnt stay running because, again, the fuel pump will not turn on.

Fuel pump does not normally turn on with the ignition ulness you use the test jumper:

solution was much more simple than i thought! turns out the little flap in the mafm needed some cleaning, was dirty enough that the suction wasnt enough to open it, which turns on the fuel pump.
