Fuel Pump Failure
My fuel pump recently stopped working. I get 10-11 volts at the pump when trying to start the truck but the pump doesn't come on.
Facts:
22re - 165k miles
When I pulled the fuel pump the filter attachment was not connected to the pump - it was lieing at the bottom of the tank.
Question 1:
Is there a reason why it won't come on other than because it is bad and needs to be replaced?
Question 2:
What can cause a pump to fail other than just being old? Basically I want to check/fix other issues so I don't burn up the new pump.
The following items checked out OK...
Main Relay
Circuit Opening Relay
Solenoid Resister
Cold Start injector
Installed new o2 sesor

If the filter/screen was not intact, your pump most likely picked up rust/debris from the bottom of the tank. I would try applying 12V from battery directly to the pump and see if it torques/responds at all. If so, you may be able to flush the pump to dislodge the debris. Pumps are very expensive and it would be worth troubleshooting.
