fuel injectors
I think one of mine is leaking. I can see gas leaking very badly from something, and I'm 99.999% sure that it is a fuel injector. This is my first fuel injected engine, so I really have no knowledge on how exactly to take it apart or what I should expect, how long it will take or what to replace. I could just jump in and start dismantleing things but I'd rather have some ideas on how to do it and make sure that everything goes back in place the way it should. I would appreciate any advice.

Best option is to pull all of them and send them off to a shop to clean/rebuild/balance:

While removing, I snapped off one of those black plastic things that cover the tip. Do I really need it because I have ordered all the gaskets and o rings I need for all four injectors. If I do need it, does anyone have a spare fuel injector I can buy for cheap?

I had the same situation (broken pintle cap) and was told it effectively made no operational difference. However, I went ahead and sent all four injectors to Witchhunter.com to have them tested and cleaned (150K miles). Well worth the money and especially quick turn around. Sent them on a Friday and had them back in the rail on Thursday. Included in the work are all new seals and pintle caps.

Yeah, I was worried about the turn around time too. I chose Witchhunter based on the number of positive threads in this forum in addition to calling ahead and talking with them. I sent them USPS and had them returned USPS which seemed risky, but worked out well (less than a week in total). You might pay the extra for expedited shipping both ways if you are worried? Call and talk to them if you are unsure. Very friendly and informative. I am getting ready to ship off the six from my Runner.

A rebuild kit should include the caps. This one is a good deal if you are only going to refresh them and not have them cleaned by Witchhunter, etc:

Well, I swapped injectors with someone local and got them in. Tried to crank it up and it acted like it wanted to start at first, then all it did was turn over. I'm about to set fire to the whole thing and watch it burn to the ground so I won't have to worry about it anymore... Anyone have any suggestions? I think my fuel pump went out or something.

Try the fuel pump test jumper:

Fuel pump I had to rig up a manual switch to get it to work, getting fuel pressure and spark, still not cranking....Who wants to help me push it off a cliff? I think I'll just start saving for an 85 engine and wiring harness so I know everything is stock...

I thought my #1 injector was leaking so I dripped some light oil down it while turning it back and forth. Seemed to work. This must be irrelavant since the o-ring is at the top not the bottom.
