Front Axle Shim Setup

Front Axle Shim Setup
I'm searching for the procedure for setting up the shims on the knuckles for the front axle from scratch. The truck has been sitting dismantled for some time, and the order/size of shims was not maintained. I'm working with a front axle rebuild kit at this point, and the truck has high steer on it. Is there a factory start point for setting up the knuckles?
Thanks in advance.......

To do it correctly you need the tool. Marlin sells one or I think you can get one off a vendor on ih8mud.

I eyeball it. I use the long side shaft in the short side to aide in setting that side up, (this sometimes wrecks the inner axle seal, so best to do this before you put new seals in) then use an assembled shaft in the long side, Not the best but works ok on a trail rig. Use the bottom shim pack to set the height (so the shaft come out in the middle of the spindle) and the top to set the preload.
