yeah check the timing but also check the plugs, my dad has an 84 truck 22r and had some trouble with excess gas not being burned, he changed the cap and rotor got new plugs (alittle better quality) and it works fine (the carb was at stock adjustments). Im sorry, this might be a stupid question, but does it have a carb or is it F.I.

Yah, I have a similiar issue, haven't solved it yet, but I have a lead. I had the EGR system off to check it and I had to pull a few vacuum hoses so I could get at something...and what did I find? Gas in a vacuum line! I'm 99% sure it shouldn't be there. The hose I pulled goes to the CB (choke breaker, another one of the diapragm activated devices on the carb), it's the one at the back right that has the "jet" inline (looks like an inline filter in the vacuum hose).
I'll post back if it is the solution to my rough idle/stalling/gas pouring out the exhaust issue. I haven't been able to run since the EGR system is off and I'm waiting for a gasket that they had to order.

So just after I last posted I started studying the vacuum diagram...I bet it is the AAP (aux accel pump) diaphragm. Not sure if leiniesred meant AAP or AP? The CB shouldn't have gas on the other side...however the CB and AAP are essentially conected through BVSV for the AAP (cold engine only). Gonna check it today.
Might be something for you to check too. Sounds like we have similar issues.
