First gen brake upgrade

larger diameter dual stage booster, that's the one... did you have a spacer plate between the old booster and the firewall? i had to pull the booster out after the fact to remove that spacer, and i still barely have enough length on the pushrod, at it's furthest extension.

No, don't think mine has a spacer. I'm going to remove again and take a look. I developed a rub in the steering knuckle as it turns it hits the booster. I think I can shave the u-joint housing, just a bit in each edge.......
But as far as the pushrod lenght, the 99 fit without even adjusting. Still plenty of adjustment left. I will show pics if my fix works!

i was able to pull the booster to remove the spacer plate by gently bending the brake lines enough to just get the booster out.
people have posted about clearance problems installing the large diameter boosters on the early cab trucks(pre '85??), they were able to dent the booster slightly to clear the steering column?? if i remember correctly, but you might want to research that.

It was working well and fit after I grinded just a hair off of the corners of the steering knuckle. ( did that instead of denting the booster) My used booster failed, just ordered a new one. Murphy's law....

Excellent. Thanks for the update. May be visiting the picking yard this weekend. Did you use the master cylinder as well?
