Engine codes pulled

1985 4runner. 22re engine. Check engine light is on. Pulled the codes and they came back 5-6-11-12.

Using this chart.
http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...osticcodes.gif

So I need some help deciphering some of this information. I understand from code 5 that I probably have a bad o2 sensor. I understand from code 12 that my knock sensor is probably bad. Codes 6 and 12 confused me more than helped. I am worried that maybe my ECU is bad since several of these codes mention that as being a possibility. If my ECU was bad wouldnt i have more issue with how the truck is running?

Any help here is appreciated. Planning on picking up the O2 sensor tomorrow. The knock sensor will probably have to wait a week or so as I am finding them to be a little more pricey.

If you ECU was bad you most likely wouldnt be getting the codes at all..

I cant find them on google, but im sure if you took a few sober mins you could fine them...either here or google, Theres more then a few sites that list actual reasons for the codes.

Have you tried resetting the ecu and driving...? That will clear the codes...and the ones that come back are actually whats up, the ECU will store past codes...

Found in my FSM where it breaks down possible cause of the codes. Code 6 is something in the ignition circuit so either an igniter circuit, igniter, distributor or the ECU.

That is an excellent idea scuba. I will reset it and then repull the codes. I sometimes use forums to help me think out loud so to speak. As I was reading the FSM it helps me.

I am really knew to all this type of thing. I have done some mechanic work on my own cars over the years but it was usually things like brakes, wheel bearings. I am new to EFI and the likes. I have been lurking here on this site for years. Now that I have a 4runner you guys have been a wealth of information. This site is definatly on the top of my favorites now.

For anyone else pulling codes that may not have access to a FSM. Here is the page that explains the possible problems for the codes.

thanks for posting the codes ... where is a good place to pick up a FSM?

i just pulled my codes and i'm a little confused by the sequencing

2-5-4-1-4-3-5-1 and then there is a very long pause and the sequence starts over again ... i watched it 3 times to make sure i got it right ...

also, the idle did not change when the T-E1 and E2 pins were jumped

i think i have a lot that needs work, the main symptom the truck is having is poor power going uphill ... i have to put it into low to make it up paved roads ... on flat highway/over 3000rpm everything feels fine

thanks

most likely you got the following codes:
25- Air-Fuel Ratio Lean Malfunction
41- Throttle Position Sensor Signal
43- Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal
51- Switch Condition Signal

Great!!! You speak 22re. I need to get an FSM so I can learn. Thanks for posting. I found some more info, I think 43 is actually starter circuit, I have a speedo cable, not a VSS. Here are some direct thinks to some good post I've found for some of those codes:

Diagnostic Trouble Codes - 1989
Toyota
11 ECU Power Supply.
12 Engine RPM Signal.
13 Engine RPM Signal.
14 Ignition Signal.
21 Oxygen Sensor (OS) Signal.
22 Water Temperature Sensor (THW) Signal.
24 Intake Air Temperature Sensor (THA) Signal.
25 Air/Fuel ratio lean. AFM? Fuel Filter? o2 sensor?
26 Air/Fuel ratio rich.
- And another link.
27 Sub-oxygen sensor signal.
31 Air Flow Meter Signal.
32 Air Flow Meter Signal.

41 Throttle Position Sensor (TPS).
42 Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Signal.
43 Starter Circuit Signal.
51 Switch Condition Signal.
71 EGR system malfunction.
