C 188 and 12SI alternator swaps in 85 PU
Tried fitting a 140 amp C188 Delco in my 1985 22RE pickup, got it in in only 3 days but less than 1/4" for belt adjustment. No good. Went to a 12 SI, approx 1/2 smaller in each direction and after grinding on the motor mount, reversing a shorter bolt and carefully grinding on the OEM alternator mount, I think I can get a belt on that I can tighten.
Both sound like a pretty common swap here as well as Pirate4x4 but maybe thst's only RHD trucks and 4 runners? How does it fit and work on NORMAL 85 PUs? Found a Nippon unit that's supposed to bolt on for $400+, HAH! The 12 SI better work out...
SInce it's so easy to swap, supposedly, WTF doesn't anyone say that it not easy at all? Well, back to under the truck work now...
Is the unobtainable aftermarket strap bracket a better solution for adjusting?
What's different under the hood between a 4runner and the pickup?
