It's pretty easy on a Studebaker or a Chevrolet. I assume you drive one of those.

i've done it. I did not do the work myself but did all parts research and it was not as painful as i thought. I can give you some direction.

I had a 92 3.0L V6 Auto. Got a 90 5 speed w/ v6 tranny to 4cyl tcase adapter from marlin crawler. Trashed stock transfer case, got a w56 from an 88., regeared with 4.7 ratio. Marlin crawler clutch. I'm running used misc parts such as pedals, master/slave, shifter...stuff like that from a place called California Mini Trucks or Cal-Mini. Definately give them a call. They can talk to you about it as well. For the throwout bearing I would recommend sticking with a toyota one. For the pilot bearing I have a marlin one I think...

As for the computer...

I bypassed the neutral safety switch. This prevented me from having to but a new ECU. Only downside is that the rig can be started in gear, and if it happens...will lurch violently. It happened to someone and he ended up killing someone.......it happened to me in my drive way and I rear ended my brothers totalled infinity. lol.

Thanks jason, that helps a ton. the only sketchey part is the starting in gear and hitting something or even someone... do you think it is worth it then or just stick anoher auto back in.

I mean its expensive when your pay $75 an hour for labor on a tranny swap with tcase regear and all that. I am very glad I did it. So much more RPM control especially with a rig like mine. Gas mileage has improved and just overall performance. Gotta have enough gear though.

I updated the previous message, I left out something important.

I just did a swap on my 85'...here are all the parts I had to buy to go along with the tranny and tc I bought.

I imagine it would be similar for your setup

Hey, just use your e brake and don't leave it in gear. That's a bad habit anyway because they can pop out of gear and roll away. Once it happens, you lean to use the e-brake.

You can do the swap--not too bad. I spent $1000 on mine, just search on here for more info.
