What is this? The black cable terminates at the throttle where it connects with a ball chain. I'm having a problem getting the idle speed correct and it affects the idle. Kinda tough to use the search function when you don't what to call it...

Yours is carb'd? I have yet to see one, but does yours happen to have cruise control? If so that would be my guess. Mine doesn't have that and it doesn't have cruise. Nor does it have that box next to the intake resonator.

Yes, carbed w/ cruise control. Ah, yes. That makes sense. Thanks

np. Alot of people forget that carb'd trucks can have cruise control. But not very common I don't think.

I recall that I was surprised when I first saw it on the steering column. BTW, nothing about it in the manuals...

Anyway, I'm trying to get my idle speed correct and that connection from the cruise was causing me fits. Now that I know what it is I'll disconnect it and get on with my adjustments.

open that box up, there might be an adjustment in there for that cable if there isn't one on the carb side. But also make sure that cable is routed correctly as well. Because if it's not, it can pull on the throttle as well. Just like your normal throttle cable. For instance if you pull on the throttle cable itself you can make the throttle move.

ok, I'll try that. When connected to the last ball on the ball chain, the idle is way too low, the engine will barely run. With the cruise connected on the second ball, however, the idle is too high and masks the low idle setting. I need to disconnect the cruise, get the true idle speed correct first. And then see about getting the cruise cable adjusted properly.

Are they connected to the correct ball? I know ya said you didn't have much info on the CC so just throwing that out there.

EDIT, nevermind, that photo cleared the connection up. lol. My guess is it's supposed to be on the first ball. But again, only a guess.

Yea, I'm not sure. I guessing it's the first ball too. And I'm guessing the idle needs to be properly adjusted with the cruise cable disconnected, whatcha think?

Agreed. Adjust idle with cruise disconnected, and put the CC cable on the first ball, and then test to see if the cruise still works properly.

Got the idle speed right and the cruise control was fine, works great. This marks the end of my mechanical problems that began Thanksgiving Day. Now onto new front glass, new stereo, and maybe A/C repair (south Louisiana summer coming soon)...
