Al's 7m swap (finally)

The looooooong awaited 7m swap thread
(Thats right BBP, you can relax now... she's almost there)

In search for more power i decided to research all possibilities.
A V-8 would have been too much for my toy axles
Building my 22r would have been too expensive and i didnt wanna push the little guy too hard with aftermarkets.
3.4 would be super expensive and a lot more work than i want to do.

Finally i found the 7m-ge swap. The appeals of this swap are:
7m-ge will bolt to your stock motor mounts with the right combination of brackets
7m-ge's bell housing will bolt to your stock trans
180hp and 180 ft lbs from a naturally aspirated- not real impressive but definitely enough to turn some 40's in a few feet of mud. I dont want to start breaking parts every time i get on it so i'm trying to avoid too much power.

So a few months ago i brought this gem home

To start things off i tore out the 7m

I cannot stress this enough LABEL EVERYTHING! Even if you think it's not needed.

Next was to get rid of the old 22r

Put on the new bell housing to make sure it was a good fit

Blue dog wanted to check things out, make sure i wasnt f'ing anything up.

I couldnt get a hold of the brackets so i decided to just relocate my motor mounts. Right after they were welded up:
Gee whiz it sure looks purdy in there
<--- Theres Shrek standing next to the yota

Latest updates: Got my flywheel and a Centerforce dual friction racing clutch. Soon as i find the damn flywheel bolts she will be in for good and i can start wiring.

Updates soon

Can you post up pics of the mount set up you have going on? I'm pretty curious, I am getting ready to build a 2WD truck with a GTE motor I have laying around and if there is a easy way to go about it I'd like to see... you said something about the right combination of brackets?

Yea well all i did was use the 7mge brackets and 22r rubber spacers. I cut the frame mounts off, reinforced them and welded them back on in a different location (i think it was about 3" forward and a little bit down)

What i've heard you can do is grab the brackets from a 5m-ge and it will all bolt right up but i couldnt get my hands on any.

I can get you a few pics tomorrow
