AC Belt Needed??

'85 22RE

I just replaced my timing chain, and as I'm putting belts back on, I had this thought that maybe I don't need to put the AC belt back on. My AC doesn't work and it actually sounds like a bearing on the AC pulley is going out. So my questions is: Do I have to put the AC belt back on? Does the AC belt help move other parts, will not putting it on mess on timing or anything? Will not installing my AC belt improve gas mileage?

If the belt only goes from the crank pulley to the a/c compressor, you do not have to put it back on. I doubt you will see any difference in fuel mileage though.

Thanks for the repl, mwisham. I'm going to leave it off until I have time to address the AC pump.

You can leave the belt off. I have seen two styles of pulley but the bearing can be swapped out https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...l#post51649322 when you get to that point.
