92 pickup into 85 4runner

Ok so cant find anything specific from searching so here goes. im getting a good price on an 85 4runner I currently have a 92 pickup.
The4runner is 22re 5spd. The pickup is 22re 5spd single cab short bed.

I need to know the interchangeability between these 2 because I have rebuilt all of these on my pickup.

Motor and trans
4wd components
And rear axle

I wont have the money to rebuild these on the runner which need it.
I do understand that the motor trans and transfer case are the same and the wheel base is the same but I am looking for issues I might run into when swapping. Should I expect mounting issues? Also anything I should know as far as efi issues for smogging(cali issues)

Thanks for reading and appreciate any help I can get.

Well you will have no issues as far as the parts bolting right in. The 22re will be the same and as far as mounting your transmission will be also.

You will however need to put the intake from the 85's 22re (or changing the sensors might also work) onto your current '92 22re unless you want to go through the headache of getting the harnesses to work together. The '85 and '92 harnesses are not plug and play.

You will also need to do some trimming for the shifters since the '85 will have a W56A and your 92 probably has a W56C or something with the tranny and transfer case shifters on the transmission itself instead of being a top shift case.

The '92 rear axle will be wider than the '85 but it still bolts in the same.

Anyway I see you posted this a few days back so I'm sure you've found most, if not all the info you need. So good luck and welcome to YotaTech.

you want to use the '92 intake/throttle body setup, because it has the superior warmup design... i passed ca smog twice with my '86, using the newer intake system, most shops don't know the difference.

i did use the '86 engine harness, so it can be done, you just have to use all of the old fuel injectors/cold start injector/airbox/sensors/etc... the harness won't know what intake/tb you are running.

swapping engine harnesses like turborunner said is probably a better idea, tho, because there is more late model stuff available in the junkyards and such... you'll have to swap over the ecu as well.

going with late model stuff means a different oxygen sensor setup, two instead of one i think? check for that.

there may be harness issues at the dash as well, i've never swapped engine harnesses, so i don't know about that.

check the brake boosters while you are at it, the later model probably has the small dual diaphram booster, which should be better than the single booster... what you really want there is the big dual booster off of the t100, tho.
