85 Pickup Power Loss & Shudder @ High RPM’s
Hey all,
In the middle of a move from Seattle to Denver my ‘85 Truck (22r Webber 38) started acting funny..
Im getting a major loss of power at higher rpm’s that is joined by a pretty substantial shudder.
If I slow down I can get the shutter to subside but as soon as rpms rise it comes back. At first it was just one hills now it won’t go away.
Ive recently replaced the dizzy, fuel filter/pump/reg, and a few other things, and prior to this trip she was running like a dream. Went to one shop where the guy (knowledgeable of these trucks) advised buying a new carb as the fasted way to get back on the road (he couldn’t work on it for at least a week).
Any thoughts of what this could be, or anyone who would agree a new carb might be my best time effective fix?
Ive got tools and stuff but want to try and tinker in the Safeway parking lot as little as possible.
thanks.

Do not just buy a new carb... If you got the carb installed or bought the truck in Seattle the carb was probably jetted for the lower altitude. There is a big elevation difference between seattle and Denver. Did you re-jet the weber for the high elevation? That is the one big disadvantage going from the asian to weber. The weber has to be rejetted for high elevation vs the asain had the high altitude compensation baffle thing that never worked 100%.
Before buying a new carb $500 see if you can get higher elevation jets for your weber 38.
heres a quick reference guide on tuning both the weber 32/36 and weber 38 for high altitude: https://lcengineering.com/tuning-web...high-altitude/
