85 fusible link replacement

Lost all power and figured problem to be at fusible link or very close. The 40 amp fuse (AM2) had green corrosion in it so replaced but no changes. My fusible link was pretty ratty with broken wire covering, poor fitting connection to battery, etc. and in process of inspecting it broke off the metal plate in the fuse block. Hard to get that bolted on section to drop down out of the fuse bock. So looking to replace, but local parts stores no help-- say I need to know amperage needed etc. etc.
Question to enlightened minds---What wire can I replace with? Does the length matter? It goes to an 80 amp fuse that looks to be good. Figuring the correct wire gauge from battery to fuse block will do it and hoping length won't matter. Some pretty thick wire in the old one--looks like #8 or so.
Thanks in advance to any Yodas of the Toyota!
Cheers!
Dan

Anyone know a source to buy another fusible link for this 85? Even the Toyota dealership did not know anything about this. Unbelievable. I'd make one up myself but can't find specs. The current one had been cobbled together.

I was making this too complicated with some wrong information. All fixed and back on the road.
Thanks!

What did you figure out? My fusible link wire burned up on me and I am trying to figure out how to properly replace it.

Edit: And I am working on an 86 4x4 Pickup (22RE)

Quick fix that worked for me is to go to an auto parts store and buy a battery cable lead of sufficient length (think I used 4/0 ) and cut off one end. Put the looped connection end on the battery terminal and connect the other onto the other side.
Good Luck.

I just ordered this one from amazon. The part number is correct but trying to find one that someone actually has in stock is the hard part. MegaZip has the diagram and part # but they don't have them in stock anymore. I hope this seller comes through.

I am curious to see what they send you as I see no pictures on the Amazon site.

Me too. Toyota Parts Deal has the same part # with a diagram that looks to be correct. I just hope they send me the right one.

Good Luck.
What you have made here is no longer a fusible link and does not function as one.

Correct. May be fine for a get ya home type deal but, It will not perform the designated safety functions of a fusible link.
