It would be a good idea to upgrade to high steer and a second gen steering box. Post a picture of your 4Runner after you get the lift done. This is my 86 4Runner.

You are probably going to want hysteer with 4" of lift... Just my two pennies.

After you get the lift installed, I think you will quickly change your mind. Just wait till you have to slam on the brakes... Hold on and enjoy the roller coaster!

You use the stock knuckles. Get fimilar with the term "Ackermann Angle" if you plan on making your own arms. My suggestion, just buy some aftermarket arms and save yourself some major headaches.

Most aftermarket high steer arms use FJ80 TRE's. I drilled the taper out of my tie rod holes and used 3/4" heim joints.

Make sure you brace your frame before you mount the IFS box.

Is the hi steer for mostly off road ? the kit comes with a 4” drop drag link? I understand both concepts? But what is the difference on the road?

One response is when I hit the brakes ? I don’t understand this ?

just a dumb newbee question

i've never had high steer...but i've had a solid axle toy that was lifted (by the looks of it..)

and when i hit the brakes..it would dart around..not like a brake was grabbing more than another...it was the steering.

if i let go of the steering wheel, it would spin ALLL the way to left by itself..lol

the High Steer kits are just a BETTER steering setup...it's just A LOT better all around..stronger, easier, quicker (because of the IFS box)..it's just ALOT better.

I agree with camo31"10.50, i had the stock steering on my 84. Its just the J pattern steering arm on the drivers side knuckle, it has to make so many twists and turns to get the tires moving left or right. Just an engineering nightmare. The IFS box with left/right instead of the push pull design works 1,000% better IMO. I drive mine on the road alot and the hysteer just works great. Your 4" procomp lift is probably for "off road use only" they just like to put those disclaimers in there so they wont get sued.

I have the front done. What a pan in the A$$ removing the shackles and bolts. Other than that about 1 ½ hours to do with brake line and shocks.
