85 4runner build

Bit of a back story about my 4runner and where it's at now. This 4runner is my first car, it belonged to my poppa who had always said it was my truck and when I turned sixteen I could have it. So when the time came to pick it up we made the 7-hour journey to his house. Up until that point, the truck had been sitting in his mate's shed for 6-7 years rusting away. While we were staying with my poppa we got the truck up and running again, only needed a new battery, alternator and wof and reg to be road legal. As I was on my learner's license and couldn't drive by myself the truck spent more time sitting around this time in my parent's garage. My plan was to get it repainted myself so panel at a time I sanded and primed the whole truck. No rust to cut out as my poppa was a panel beater and had cut out all the rust. Along the way, the truck failed its wof for a leaking injector pump and rear brake imbalance. The injector pump got sent away to be rebuilt and I put new brake shoes and cylinders. Then for a few months not much really happened to it as I had got my restricted license so it was out on the road and on the tracks more than in the shed plus I didn't have the funds to keep working on the truck as I was only a high school student. After school finished for the year I saved up a bit more money and bought some colour matched spray cans and set to work spraying.

Plans now are to finish up the paint job, and then who knows I'd like to do a two inch lift and 33s at some point, also I'd like to put some sort of diff locker in.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Josh

All in primer with rattle cans. Did remove the bull bar and winch as they were in the way working on it and also the winch cable didn't look too trustworthy. I do hope to get a new bull bar and winch in the future.

Forgot to mention this is a right-hand drive in New Zealand, also it had a 2LT, 2.4 turbo diesel engine.

Installed a diff breather kit as I was starting to do a few more river crossings and my diff fluid wasn't the most ideal colour. Bought the 4 port kit but later learned that my gearbox and transfer case don't have the standard breathers.

Painted the roof, got a rubber seal for the windscreen but ended up cracking it going back in.
Got the windscreen place to do it. They couldn't get it in either as it it too tight, but he has now ordered me a hilux windscreen which is 15mm shorter so should fit no worries.
Got some new rims, white steelies just need to get some rubber for them
They are 16x8 -22 and going to get 265/75r16 muddies

It is looking good!

There is a thread about the metal trim around the windshield and the way to replace it with the rubber seal:

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...8/index10.html

The windshield can be sanded in the corners, that ways the seal fits, or something like that you can read in that thread.

Do you have link/part number of the seal and windshield?

Good plan on the windshield! I tried for days with the wrong windshield. Lots of swearing. Mine was already cracked I just wanted to try anyhow so I tried sanding it down all the way around but just don't have the proper tools for it. I gave up and just had a new one glued in. No trim. It looks ok. I'm gunna look into your idea.

I wasn't so keen on having the chrome trims as they just collect water and I prefer the look of the rubber seal, plus I never had all the chromes
Seal was just from ebay

How did the seal go with your windsheild? Im preparing to order the seal in the ebay link and remove the chrome trim/clips and start sanding/welding any rust damage.

The seal wouldn't fit with the old windshield and I ended up cracking it trying to squeeze it in, after the the guy at the glass shop looked at it he got a hilux/pickup windscreen which is 15mm shorter and it went in no problem, also I couldn't get the 4 bolts along the interior trim back in but the rubber seal holds it tight, maybe try a different seal off you're using the original windshield.

Got the canopy painted in a black texture coat. Don't have any photos but I upgraded the audio system with replacement 4 inch speakers in the front, custom mounted 6x9s in the back, an under seat sub, and new headunit all jvc. Have started making a drawers system in the back, will post photos soon.
Took a bit of damage in the river in the weekend, 2 blades broke off the radiator fan and smashed up the radiator. Have got parts on the way, but decided to give it a birthday and do the cambelt and water pump while I'm in there.
