84 bed won't fit, I'm really confused!

I finished painting my standard short bed a few days ago and decided to put it on today. I failed. I have about 7 inches between the cab and bed, and only a few of the mount holes line up when the wheel well is centered over the tire. My frame is for a standard cab, but aren't the long 2nd gen beds all added on to the tailgate side? I had to build a custom ebrake mount also. It origionally had a dually axle under the rear too. I was going to sell it, but this pretty much made it impossible to get anything decent for the truck. Has anyone else ever come up on a problem like this?

You have a longbed frame. The bed you painted is a shortbed. The extra length is NOT at the tailgate are its right after the cab.

I always thought that the addad length was on the tailgate side. I'm gonna have a hell of a time finding one or those now.

Yep, that is why the long bed and xtra cab wheel bases are longer than the short bed pickups.

I already found a bed in Idaho with a camper shell, but I'm not sure if I want a long bed. I have a feeling I'm going to end up doing some sort of tube bed instead. Anyone want to buy a bed?

U said it was a dually? Why not keep it dually with flat bed and convert to 4x4? That would ne SWEET!

It was dually origionally, but the dude I bought it from swapped out the axles before I bought it. He did a daully flat bed with it, and it is and always has been 4x4. I wish I still had that rear end, but he wouldn't sell it to me, but now has an efi 85 4x4 with a dually flatbed, so I understand why. The bed has no rust, entire underbody has been sprayed with rubberized underbody coating and it is a 4x4 with the bedsides and a taco tailgate protector. If you want it, it comes with all lights too. Also it has been bedlined inside.

If you were closer, I would jump on it.

I'd love to replace my rusty old bed with a better one but the shipping expenses will make it unrealistic at this time.

A dually 4x4? Sounds sick; I didn't know they made them.

It was probably a custom order, Don't know if I would build it for offroad though. Tires would get expensive, for me at least.
