84 4runner wired for map light?
I have an 84 4runner and where the rear view mirror is there is no light. Just a solid piece of plastic where the dome/map light would be. I have an extra dome light that would fit up there, but is there wiring already there for it? Just curious, if so, i'll put it on my to do list.

THe dome light and map light are two seperate assemblies. THe dome light is molded into the rear view mirror assembly and the map lights bolt off of a bracket FROM the domelight and actually sit further back. THere are two seperate lights for either driver or passenger. Some 4Runners came with the map lights (not the domelight) and they're may be a loose plug for that up there. Everything was probably pre-ran.

I put a map light into my 85 Deluxe 4Runner which did not come with one from the factory. There was no pre-ran wiring. If it wasn't an SR5 with a map light from the factory then you will have to wire it yourself.
Just to make sure we are on the same page, this is a map light:

The bracket that you see with that map light is held in place between the rear view mirror and the rear view mirror bracket. To install you remove your rear view mirror and then install just the map light bracket. You can then mark the headliner and make some X cuts where the map light goes. You can then remove the map light bracket, slide the bracket under the headliner (through the X cuts) and reinstall the bracket and the rear view mirror. The map light then screws into its bracket.
I ran power from the dome light but I warn you it's a pain in the behind. Here's a thread explaining how I did it:

Read post #9. Good luck; it's nice to have and worth the effort.

The map light that I bought came with a "harness" which was IIRC about 3' long (maybe a little less) with a connector on the end. My 4Runner had no wiring in the passenger A-Pillar (where it's supposed to be but there was none in either location). Are you saying to remove the next part of the harness from a donor?

is this the wiring harness you are talking about? One of the plugs was plugged to the dome light (the single light in the middle) in my 85 extracab. Is the other plug for the map light(double light, passenger and driver)?
Next question: How do I get the harness from this truck? When you say A-Pillar, do you mean the pillar that is right next to the windshield that goes the length of the windshield?
Also you say the wiring harness plugs into the fuse box at the feet of the driver? Thanks
