'84 4runner catalytic converter

Hello,

I picked up an '84 4runner from a guy who had it on a deer lease. I've been trying to get it street legal and my only obstacle is passing emissions. I was trying to unbolt the catalytic converter yesterday and noticed that there is a probe bolted to the cat. It's approx. 1/4" diameter x 4" long. It has a wire going into the cabin. I don't think its the oxygen sensor because the O2 sensore is threaded into the header. Anybody have any ideas on what this probe is for?

Thanks

it is a temp probe for the emissions computer, my 84 had one too... i dont think that you need it if you going to put an aftermarket cat on it
