'80 22r in an 87?

My dad found a good deal on a 22r out of an 80 pickup, but before I tell him to get it, I want to make sure it'll be a smooth swap. In other words, will it work? I know I'll have to swap carbs, but I dont know about anything else.

Well, if it's on a trail rig, I guess it'll be ok... but it's usually illegal to swap in a motor that's older than the truck.

depends on where you live actually.

as far as bolting it in, it's a direct swap. you'll need to put your clutch onto it, though, the 4 speed used in '80 used a different clutch. the main issue lies in the carb/emissions mess. easiest way to go would be to run a weber carb on it.

The county I live in doesn't have emissions laws yet, but I plan on buying a weber carb eventually anyway.
