4.7 transfer case or 5.29 rear which is better choice for trail rig

4.7 gears in a single case would kind of suck. there are times on a trail that you would want the 2.28 low range because the 4.7 is too slow between obstacles but you still need low range.
advantage to 4.7 is $$$, you can do it for $350--no driveshaft mods etc where I have about $1000 into doing my dual cases.(crossmember, adapter, DS work, extra case/mount)
that being said I like my 5.29's with dual cases, I have 2.28 and a 4.7 gear set..worth the money IMO...the 5.29's with 35's+ make a DD manageable where 4.7's don't do squat for you if it is a DD.
edit: i know the dual cases was not brought up but...anyway Personally if the truck DD I would do 5.29's first than consider transfer case options

with a single 2.28 case and 4.30 gears I mainly used 1st and 2nd gear. Sure once off the trail and on the core roads I will use 3rd or 4th, but some times I also just pop it back into high range.
I just installed my 4.7 tcase yesterday, and I know already that I want even lower gearing. I'll be installing dual cases before I regear the diffs. I already have the spare tcase, just need to pick up the adapter, crossmember, then install it and have the drive shaft work done.

I had duals with 2.28's in the transfer cases, pretty much like a 4.7. It worked great. that beeing said, I do love having duals with the 5.29's I put in later. Go with the transfer case first.
