2nd generation clutch chatter (slight)
How many of you 2nd generation owners have had a clutch "chatter" problem when feathering in the clutch. Did you live with it, or did you replace the clutch, which fixed the problem?

I had it before I replaced mine. I would just slip the clutch a little bit from time to time and it would go away for a while. It's a sign your clutch is getting on the worn side.

Thanks... I think you are right. I'm also wondering how long I can live with it before it starts to slip, or becomes irritating enough to just do it. Right now, its only a tiny irritation, mostly because of it being a sign of upcoming failure.

ive narrowed it down to a u joint or something in the clutch like a pilot bearing. im gonna pull the rear shaft and go front wheel drive to eliminate the rear end. ive swapped trannies and clutches with no change. i had to pull the tranny anyways to do a rebuild but even with a new clutch and tranny and transfer case it still squalls when the clutch is pressed at speeds over 40 mph or if you take the tranny out of gear and coast. it also squalls without loads . its a lifted (trail gear 5" springs) 84 4x4 with a rear detroit softlocker 5.29's and a factory driveshaft, the shaft doesnt seem to have play and i did use a clutch from an 89 tranny because thats what year tranny i pulled but the original 84 tranny appears to use the same clutch except for a different throwout bearing, i am using the bearing from the 89 on both trannies because i dont have the original release bearing hub and i figure the late model bearing wouldnt matter on either tranny , the engine is also a late model 85-up lazer block.. ill figure it out sooner or later.
