22re exhaust leak question
I just started hearing an exhaust leak when I accelerate. It sounds just on the other side of the firewall. I belive that it may be at the first joint where the header meets the exhaust pipe. But it could be where the header meets the block. How hard of a job is it to replace the gaskets and what should I look out for problem wise? I am a descent wrench turner, but this is somthing I havent tried before.
Upon further close inspection I found that one of the nuts had worked it's way lose and fell off on the joint from manifold to exhaust pipe.

it's an easy job. sounds like your exhaust donuts on the downpipe flange burned out, usually happens pretty quickly if one of the nuts loosens up.
just remove the clamp that holds the downpipe to the transmission, then remove the remaining nuts from the bottom of the manifold. the pipe should pull away with plenty of room to replace the donuts, they usually run about $5 for both at the parts store. i like using a regular nut(M10x1.25 is the thread size) with a hardened split lock washer.
