2.4 swap to a 3.0

I have an 85 4runner, i am in the process of putting a 3.0 from an 89 4runner into the 85, I went to put the 3.0 into the 85, and the frame mounts are too close together and too far forward , is there any kits available to do this swap? has anyone run into this before? any halp would be great.

first of all, don't waste your time.

second, offroad solutions has kits for the 3.4, not the 3.0.

offroad solutions has the mounts for a 3.4, which has the same mounting points as a 3.0, which is what I need. and since I have the 3.0 with the whole truck, I have everything i need, so it should be a simple swap once I get the mounts fixed.

how easy would it be to put a 3.4 in it? would you have to run a taco transmission and tcase but what about the axles? could the ring and pinion handle all the power going to the wheels? when my 22r dies a 3.4's going in it for sure how difficult of a swap is it? (the EFI crap is going to be hard i know) but i would i have to raise my gears or run different axles?

The 3.0 makes a nice paper weight. I'd rather have four hamsters on an exercise wheel as my engine than a 3VZE.

Don't do it, bro!

You, know I had the same opinion about the 3.slow as everybody else (mainly going by what everybody else said ) well.....my buddy just picked up a 90 something 4Runner for really cheap, it came on 35s and was regeared to 5.29 (5 speed) and you know what, I was pretty impressed by how well it accelerated and kept up with traffic and even passed (on hills!) so, I say, if you have it and can do it for cheap.....go for it. I wish my 22RE was half as peppy-----------Hans

here's the story, my buddy has the 89 4runner with the 3.0, he has put about 60k on it since he got it about 4 years ago, he has hardly had to do anything to it, until his wife wrecked it, so we got a straight axle 4runner, and we are putting the 3.0 into it, the same one he has had for the last 4 years, so the parts are not an issue, and it runs like a champ, he has never had a single complaint about it, so we are just getting it back on the road, and this is how we decided to go about it. thanks for the help.

nobody get mad but i guess you could say that the 3.0 is .6L bigger than the 22RE and it may not have much more power but i bet it has a little more. if your 22RE is dead and you have a wrecked runner with a good 3.0? i guess its not that bad of an idea. my old girlfriend had a 90 4runner with the 3.0 and it was a tad bit faster than my 22r but not by much. her 3.0 had ticks and tocks like crazy tho and it was POS haha

.6 might not sound like much but it does add torque, plus a 6 cylinder is more likely than not going to be better than a 4 cylinder...and that torque always helps.

the 3 liter is a quirky engine, but with fresh head gaskets they are fairly tough and reliable. I've had 2 3.0's and on my 4th 22r and I like them both.

You couldn't PAY me to have one...well...maybe, depending on how much it was.

But I sure as heck wouldn't swap one in on PURPOSE. :pat:

Just ask Doc about 3.0s and how bad they suck...his has blown up TWICE in the past year.

my freinds dad owns a honda/toyota shop and they HATE the 3.0s. If u like workin on it more then u drive it then go right ahead. Everytime i see the little v-6 sticker on the older pickups i shake my head in dissapointment

I am an ase certified mechanic, if you take care of it you won't have problems, the one I am putting in has 200k and he hasn't had a single problem with it, it has been drowned twice, and put through hell in between, but it has never left him stranded. just like any engine, if you neglect it, it will not last, you are entitled to your opinion, but I started this whole thing simply asking for some mounting advise, not whether or not you thought I should do it, I don't want to sound like a prick, but it is already in process, and no matter what you think of the 3.0, it is going in to the truck.
