1984 Rear drum brake problem (HELP)
Hi, I've got a 84 4wd who's rear brakes have been gutted. Ive got a new drum, shoes, hardware kit but I still think I'm missing parts (where the shoes pivot off of at the bottom, the plunger for the wheel cylinder, and the winged washer at the top point where the springs connect above the cylinder) Does anyone have an useful brake diagram or detailed pictures of stock brakes? Also I have an 87 4wd with the bigger brakes. If I get too impatient will I be able to press the larger brake housings off the 87 axels and press them onto the 84's axels or are the 87 housings larger in diameter and wont be a direct fit? Last thing I swear, Will i have to reuse a brake proportioning valve or can I by pass it?

87 will not fit 84, and yes you need to keep the proportioning valve unless you put in another one in the front of the truck. There are some threads on here that show you how to add the valve and remove to other one. You'll have to search, I don't know where it is

Awesome appreciate it, needed the sames of these parts. Do youn know if 1987 brakes can be put on 1984 axels. I know the axel shafts on the 87 are thicker and longer but wasnt sure if the head was the same diameter or not. Can't find a solid answer.
