1984 pickup wiring
My instrument panel lights and tail lights, both at the same time, won't turn on until I drive a mile or two. I also have a right side headlight that as a mind of its own and turns off now and again. I have replaced the combo switch on the steering column and yet I still have this problem.
Question is; is there somewhere downstream of the combo switch where there is a plug and I could replace all the wiring from that plug down to all the lights? I generally figure it's easier to replace everything than to chase things down. That is unless someone has other suggestions?

I have 86 and 88 trucks so I don't have an electric wiring diagram (EWD) for your 84. Both my trucks have a ground from the harness to body behind the driver side foot panel as well as one (I think) to one of the bolts that hold the cross brace behind the dash to the driver side of the body. Check the battery negative terminal to body ground and the ground from the head to the firewall in the engine bay and any other grounds. I think there is a ground wire from the column to the dash bar as well?? Maybe some contact cleaner on the connections. Clean all your light sockets and connectors. Especially if you live in a wet environment.
You can do a headlight upgrade with a kit that uses halogen or LED headlights and a harness with relays. Basically plugs into your original headlight socket to activate the relays and power comes directly from battery instead of through the headlight switch.
I don't think there are new harnesses available for our older trucks. I wish. I have heard of some Land Cruiser guy or two that make new harnesses for those models. You can buy the pins and plugs and build your own.

I did find this: https://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTr...#WiringHarness
I need to go over the grounds. It's certainly not the lights it fixtures, been through that already.
I like my sealed beams so I'll stick with those. Got to do a bunch of more research yet. Thanks for your input though.
