truck not pumping fuel

My truck is not pumping fuel. I just replaced my fuel pump today, changed the fuel filter, and still not getting any fuel. I can steadily pour gas down the carb and let the truck run for about two minutes, but it will still not pump anything. The truck sat up for a few months after I did some stuff to the engine. So what could be the problem? It's a 82 22r.

Not overlooking the obvious...
Is there gas in the tank to pump?
Have you hardwired the pump to see if it is pumping to the carb?

What did you do to the engine?

I believe there is a combination of rubber and hard fuel lines coming from the gas tank, replace the rubber ones, I always run a very large fuel filter right off the gas tank, the most common one is off a 80's and 90's ford truck, you could also disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel pump and gas tank and blow out the fuel lines with compressed air.

I just put a little over 5 gallons into the tank. The fuel pump is mechanical, so I can't hardwire. Alknd I just replaced the head gasket, shaved the head, replaced the timing chain, water pump, fan clutch, belt, and probably more that i'm forgetting.

Yes, you are correct...thinking about my own issues on my 85.

Shaved the gas?

Check the little sight window in the front of the carb. If theres no gas, its the pump or something related, if there is gas, its something gummed up in the carb

pull the fuel line coming out of the pump and see if fuel comes out, if it doesn't check the lines.

I've got an '83 FSM at home that aught to have the fuel line diagram in it. If I remember I'll grab it at lunch & scan it.

Does that help any? I did find a diagram that traces the fuel line to the charcoal canister, too, if you need it.

I had the same Problem on my 81 it was the rubber lines that connect the hard lines from the tank to behind the cab on the frame. Then about a year later the hard lines got cracks. Now I just run 5/16 rubber line from the tank to the carb with an filter inbetween and it works great, provides a little more flow too.

That wasn't quite what I needed, but I found what I needed on another website. I'm off again wednesday and I only have one class so I will have some time to mess around with the yota. I am going to try to bypass all the fuel crap and run a like from the tank straight to the fuel pump and see what happens.

A small crack in a rubber hose can drive you crazy. It's just enough so you can't get enough vacuum to get the pump primed. I had the same thing happen to a Ford truck one time. If the hoses look weather checked replace them all.
