Too many vacuum lines!

81 22r...from california. I plan on putting an aftermarket 2 barrel with a manual choke, bc out here in Pa, I'm emissions exempt. I know I need to provide vacuum for the distributor advance, but how much of this other crap does the engine fundamentally need to run? I want to scrap the smog pump, too, what effect will that have on things? I'm just starting a head gasket job today, so while I have everything out of the way, I want to look at everything and see what can be deleted. The best running engines that I've ever seen were always the simplest, and that's what I'm going for here. These vacuum lines have to go.

I'm in PA and even with the emissions exempt sticker no no need for emissions sticker and/or gas cap check, I had a hard time inspecting mine with the Weber on it because it still technically needs the EGR and PAIR system operable as it is still a part of the safety sticker. Just letting you know.

Getting it inspected is no problem...I have a guy who would put a sticker on a horse if I rode one in. It's the mechanical aspect I'm concerned with. Even if I left the smog pump in and made it look connected...in case some DOT officer became curious...

I took everything off my '81 except the vac advance for the distributor. I also went with a "no smog control" header so the smog pump had to go as well. Engine is a lot less problimatic without all that crap, but I don't know anything about the emission checks in PA so procede at your own risk. In WA, after 25 years, no checks AT ALL.

Where did you run the vacuum lines from the distributor to to provide appropriate vacuum? I have these 2 ports in the intake manifold, right under the carb, which would increase and decrease with rpms, would that work for the distributor?

either should work fine IMO. I had an offy dual plane with a webber 32/36 and (if I remember correctly) the webber had a port on it for the vac advance. Am running dual sidedrafts now with a mechanical advance distributor or I'd pop the hood and tell ya for sure. What kind of carb are you putting in? I will look when I get home shortly and see if I can get a more certain answer for ya.

Sxtill deciding on a carb. Offenhauser makes one...don't know yet. Have to get the head gasket in, and while I have her opened up, look and decide whether it needs anything else like rings first...then pick a carb. I may get a holley and fab an adapter plate...my buddy is a carb whiz and we're kicking around some ideas. You don't happen to still have that weber or want to part with it, would you? Thanks for checking into it for me.

webbers DO have a port for the vac advance. If the carb you use doesn't for some reason, try the manifold port and check the advance with a timeing light and see if it's at least close to spec (set at idle no vac, check idle with vac, and check at higher rpm). That's my best guess.

Sold it a few years back. The 32/36 with the offy dual plane was an awesome setup IMO. Will do that setup if I build a different yota later. Great running, better milage and power than stock, I just decided to go crazy and do sidedrafts. They work great, but suck a lota gas
