Stock stereo/radio location ideas.

Hello all, I'm looking for some insight on what my options might be for a stock stereo/radio location. The tweeker that owned my '82 before me hacked the crap out of the original dash, but I have an uncut replacement that will be installed. Now I want to find some tunes that will fit the stock location. I know some have installed their head unit in the glove box, but I'd rather not do that. CD capability is not important, but having 3.5 mm jack is.
Thanks!
Marc

There is some "vintage" or something stereo dealer...someone found a stereo which fit in the stock location, but could have an mp3 player plugged into it...can't remember who or what company, but try searching (here or google) and see if you find anything...

"The Retrosound Model One has a mini USB jack and will play music from a thumb drive through that. It also has a stereo mini jack auxiliary input and supposedly will play any electronic device through that. I'm hoping to be able to play an iPhone through the mini jack but still have to get a cable to fit."

Page one towards the bottom, and some more about it in the top of page two, I think. If you get into reading the whole thread, this was a great build...but be warned...it doesn't have a happy ending.

Thanks for the link Zach. I've read that thread before, but totally forgot about the stereo info. It certainly looks like it will fit the bill, but it would be nice to get some real world feedback on that unit. It was a sad ending to that build. I wonder what happened to the truck.

Go to suncomb1 "MY Toy" photo album and you will see a photo of my Kenwood unit installed in the stock location. I have a 4 channel amp, 4-3way speakers and a 10 disk changer. Great sound and loud enough if you need it.

I used the original deck/radio and ran the speaker wires to a "line level" converter. This allowed me to use an external amp with the stock deck and have an ipod jack. Very easy.

Won't fit in the stock first gen location without cutting the dash.

Oh, and I sent a PM to Flek not too long ago. He said he was about to sell the truck.

I don't know... I guess if you have the space, who knows, maybe someone will want it someday. But most people restoring trucks as old as first gens, or even newer, I guess, aren't going to care too much or want the original deck. They just want a deck that will fit without cutting their dash or bezel.
