running badly

my 22r is having running problem after it warms up. its very hard to start and diesels after shutting it down. its acting like its the fuel shut off valve on the carb. i put 12v to it and it works fine.
the guy before me said he rebuilt the carb but i dont trust him. before i invest in a rebuild kit does anyone know of any emission equipment that can make it run like this after it warms up?

thanks!

Check the timing and also check for vacuum leaks.

i searched all around for vacuum leaks and could find none. i got the timing right on so i know thats not it. i dont know a lot about the emissions equipment but i got it all hooked up according to the diagrams. if the cat is clogged would it cause hard start or dieseling?

Don't think the cat would have that significant an effect on your starting/cranking. How does the motor run under a load?

If it diesels after shutting it off and your sure the timing is set right, then unscrew the fuel cut solenoid and see if the o-ring on the end of it is bad or missing, if it is missing or bad that can cause the dieseling problem that your having. i had this happen on another toyota i had and once i figured it out and replaced the o-ring the problem was fixed.
