Ring and Pinion Swap

I'm thinking of swaping out my stock ring and pinion on my '83 yota to 4.88's. I have 33 x 1250s and from what I've read 4.88's are recommended. I also have an Aussie Locker in the rear (love it!). With regearing I may even get to use 5th gear once in a while. Any input would be helpful!!

4.88 should work well with 33" tires

4.88's w/ 33's are a great match but if you are thinking of ever going with a bigger tire easier to regear for that now...5.29's for 35's.

If you want to do it yourself you might find Zuk's website helpful: GearInstalls.com

Good to hear about the Aussie, I have mine out in the garage ready to go in

about hit the nail on the head 'm running 4.88's with 36's and should have gone to 5.29's but the darn saleman told me it wasnt needed so i have to regear to 5.29's next year (thinking about going back to 38s)

4.88's it is (front and rear of course). No plans to go bigger than 33's. After the ring and pinion swap it's an Aussie locker for the front. Hopefully a test and Moab East Jeep Safari this year and show those boys what a Yota can do.
