Rear Output Shaft Seal Removal

Hello all!
I have an 1982 Toyota Pickup 2wd with an L43 4spd transmission. I am currently trying to replace the rear output shaft seal so as to sure up the leak I have there. I tried to pry it out a few different ways but had no success. Am I missing a special tool to do the job or something? Can anyone give me some tips?

I think I just worked a small flathead screwdriver into mine...being careful not to scratch the metal around it. There is a special too, I think, which is similar to snap-ring pliers, but I didn't want to buy it.
