Daily driven, 1986, 2wd, 22R, 4sp.
SPECS:
TUNING:
RESULTS:
SPECS:
- Rebuilt all OEM stock internals.
- Cat delete
- Thrush glass pack muffler
- Fan delete / Electric fan install
- Cold air/ Ram air hood scoop setup using rubber seal to the hood from a 1971 Chevelle above the carb
- Billet water pump pully
- Stock Aisin carb
- Dual charcoal canisters delete
- Curb weight 2390lbs
TUNING:
- 92 octane fuel
- 5W-30 conventional in winter 10W-40 in summer motor oil with zinc additives
- Timing set to 10* BTDC
- FAM enriched one half turn
RESULTS:
- Starts up easily, Runs great, Pulls hard in all gears.
- Effortlessly cruises at 75mph. Have had her up to 101mph no problem.
- 0-60 consistently in 9.4 secs.
- Sounds good.
- Using math/ power to weight ratio and 0-60 time I have surmised unofficially 115 to 120 HP. with the minor mods.
- None that I can think of.
- Light weight flywheel and Comp clutch
- Full de-smog.

I had a 22re in a Celica GT-S with a stock rebuild and no mods other than balancing. The result was very noticeable and i will always spend the money for performance balancing in the future.
I had a 20r with a TRD adjustable cam gear and no other mods and stock cam advanced about 5* made it a lot zippier in lower rpm’s
I have done EGR delete per the old TRD white paper method, which is placing a BB in the vacuum line to prevent the EGR valve from opening but keeps everything stock appearing under the hood. This yields better throttle response but no improvement in gas mileage.
I have had the injectors cleaned on my current 22re and received a flow report before/after. None were terrible to start, but some were better than others. End result: afterward, each cylinder probably contributed more equally to power production, but no improvement in gas mileage.
