New to own a 79' with starter ??
The starter on my 20R will kick out and spin against flywheel like it has an alignment issue. Things I've tried are took the cover off the solenoid and checked plunger and contacts all looked like new. On bench starter will kick out all the time. I've had it off 4 times now trying to get the problem figured out. I also checked voltage on the signal wire to solenoid and I get 11.7V everytime. If I leave both bolts just finger tight it will engage everytime. I've cleaned both mating surfaces of starter and bellhousing. Sometimes I can go out and it will kick in and start first try other times it may take 2 to 6 attempts. Is there ever been anyone that had to shim the nose cone from bellhousing? I'm loosing my patience with this thing. The starter has been replaced sometime recent still has stickers on it and very clean. Could it be a starter for a later model? I can't seem to figure it out.
