Need some feedback on lifts

I have decided to start saving up and look into lifting my truck. My end goal is to fit 35's under it w/o any major scrubbing. I have no experience with lifts and toyota and I dont know what's good to use. I was thinking of a 4" lift, will that be enough to fit and clear 35's?

Down here in the south, there is not a lot of crawling places, I prefer trail riding and exploring. I do hit the mud occasionally, but only if I have to. The truck is mostly street driven and is my daily driver.

I would like some feedback on what is the best products to use and still keep a very good streetability to the truck. My little brother put a 3" rough country lift on his truck, 3" front spgrings and blocks in the rear and it made the truck drive/feel like total crap. I want to avoid this situation on my truck.

I was thinking of using Bilstein shocks, 3" leafs of some type and some terraflex revolver shackles or something along those lines. Any suggestions guys?

TerraFlex (revolver) shackles have a reputation of unloading on down hill slopes, making you feel like you are gonna dive forward in your truck, just like if you went to a double shackle set up. Good flex on the flat stuff but horrible on the down hill...

Marlin or Alcan if you're doing more crawling, but since you're not, I totally recommend Downey. If you go with their bundles you will save yourself some money, too.

Don't buy online; inform yourself on the web/catalog, but place your order on the phone. That way you can get personalized recommendations from the expert on the other end of the line.

Thank you for the feed back guys. I have been reading and hearing alot about the Marlin, Alcan, and downey springs, but I had not heard much on the shackles. I'm still window shopping for the future and trying to decide on the route I want to go.

4" should be spot on for 35s with NO trimming

I ran 35's both stock and with a 2" BL. Rubbed, but i could have cut/beat too.

I have no experience with any front spring other than stock, but have heard great things about RUF.

Out back, I'd go 63" Chevys, I run them on my 4Runner, awesome flex/ride. I can clear 35s on my 4Runner and I know I'd have alot more room if I ran them on my 79. Ride difference might be different on a light 1st gen backend, but i'm sure it would still be better than the stock 48" teeth rattlers.

What all is needed to use the 63 chevy rear springs? Do in need to extend the brake lines or anything else? Or are they just swap and ride?

That's a great post OCD, Thank you for showing me that. I might try that route, but I would like more information on if I need to extend brake lines.. etc.. it's the little stuff that always seems to come back and bite me in rear.

You will most def. need an extended brakeline for the rear. Stock springs on my 79 were pushing my brakeline. Only $25-30 for an extended one.

Front's have a little more slack, but the whole kit is around 70 bucks...wise investment

You'll need shocks as well
