Need help Wiring ignitor coil
Hey guys im new to this forums and to yotas so heres the story i will start with. i bought a 80 shortbed from my friend after he crashed it the vin plate said it had a 20r but it had a 22r in it so sometime along its life it got swapped. then i came accrossed a 84 xtra cab that had a 22r in it but the motor was bad so i switched the good motor out of the 80 to the 84 but the 84 when i got it was all taken apart and didnt have the coil or anything in it so i took the coil out of the 80 but it seems to be the wrong one it has the big round coil with the little ignitor on it it has 3 wires and 2 wires to the distributor out of it i know one is a ground and one is a 12v whats the other? and which plug in the 84 engine bay is for the coil i only see 1 plug and it has a black wire and a black wire with a red stripe. can i hard wire it any way or does anyone understand what im saying and can help? thanks guys

its the round coil. from what ive figured out there needs to be 1 ground 1 12v that has a resistor on it and one 12v to the ignitor is this right? i checked the wiring from the 80 and traced it and both went to the ignition switch one went from the ignition switch to the coil and was spliced with a resistor that went to ground and the other was direct 12v from the ignition so baisically couldnt i just run 2 12v wires on a switch and a fuse direct from the batter and it would run? as long as i resist one wire?
thanks. i will try to get some pictures.
oh and i havent looked but anyone know what color my starter signal wire would be? is it black with a yellow stripe? or black with a white stripe? thanks
