My New 83 SR5: Funny Carb Problem
It doesn't seem to run right unless I spray carb cleaner in it. Then it runs great. I drive it to the store. Shop and when I go to start it again it either idles really high or shakes a lot. I have adjusted the top screw on the side of the carb a few times and have had mixed results. It seems like spraying carb cleaner on the top of the carb is the only thing that works, but I can't do that everytime to get it running right.
Also. If I hold a piece of white paper up to the exhaust it has black wet marks. I am assuming that is oil or gas. What can I do? help. . . ?

hey! i had similar problems with my toyota. I evidently had the idle mix screw turned out to much. so as a result it was running way to rich and shaking. I read up on a forum how what the adjustment specs where and poof, problem gone! i will post links when i get home of where i found the info! the info is saved under my favorites, lol.

so. after going to some local auto shops and finding out that carbs are black voodoo. . . i researched online and bought a carb from these guys: http://importcarburetors.com/
It took about two hours to replace the one I had and it works PERFECT now! I didnt have to adjust anything! I would highly recommend them to anyone on here with carb problems. My carb works great and the no adjustment thing is key. I am an uber beginner at this stuff. Anyhow, that is how I solved the problem

You'll have to let us know how it holds up. That's a good price and no core charge! The photos say they show you were to find the carb # but they don't...I still haven't been able to locate my carb number..

it is on a little tag hanging from the front. or so I found. I didn't send them my carb number when I ordered it. They only listed one carb for me 83, manual so I took a chance
I haven't had a problem yet. I have put about 50 miles on the carb so far and everything seems good. I am attaching some pics. Sorry about the quality but the upload size limit on here kind of sucks.
the first two are my old and the last is the new.

UPDATE:
so. i have had the carb for many months now and it has not once failed me. I haven't had to touch it at all. Not once. So I am going to go on record and say that Import Carburetors is completely legit and worth every penny!

I too have heard good things about Import Carburetors. If my truck ends up needing a rebuild I will probably just go with them.
One thing though, sometimes if a truck has already had a commercially rebuilt carb put on it, the original carburetor identification tag can sometimes get lost. I have run into this on one other occasion with a National Carburetor carb or something like that on an old Ford.

Just transplanted a rebuilt FC Products TOY-500 Carb into my 1982 2WD Toyota truck. My first carb transplant, job went well, easy, like a new truck now!
