Ok so I check my timing and vacuum advance again. I set the initial timing to about 12* then then i plug in the vacuum line it does noting and when i rev it up it advances the timing to about 20 or so degrees. i've heard this might have something to do with how the vacuum line is attached to the carb. please help. I just checked the vacuum advance again and it didn't hold a vacuum at all on both sides so that may be my problem

my 82 is weak and eats gas aswell, average 12 mpg.
22 r,stock carb,new tune-up.bored .50 over.
4 speed....33 swampers....4:11 gears
80 mph tops,1st and 2nd are decent on acceleration,3rd falls on its ass,4th the engine just keeps up.
running 75 requires over 3/4 throttle, over pass i loose speed asif i clutched in and coasted.
she runs almost in the hot area at 75,the engine is straining very badly.i drive 60 miles a day like this,im affraid ill burn her up soon.
sounds like a normal old 22r with big tires to me.

Is the inside of your tailpipe black?
Sooty black? Because that's unburnt fuel.

Reason i ask is because you have the e3 plugs, which are the 3 prong ones that have a set gap..
Well, i'm contradicting myself from earlier posts, but try a set of NGK-R Plugs, gap them properly (maybe even a little far out), and set your timing slightly advanced. THEN Adjust your idle properly.

If you still get black junk at the end, then your carb is running rich, and you'll need to tune it up.

If that doesnt help, maybe look into going into a higher heat-range on your plugs?

I'll think about the plugs but i did just put a new cap and rotor and a msd blaster 2 coil. i'm getting 8mm spark plug wires too. If I do get new plugs i'll get NGK g series plugs. And I just tuned down the carb again today running it leaner I think the last coil was shot.

Ok, do you have that person's recommended main jets in the Weber now?
If so, I could almost guarantee your 135 is a touch too small and the 190 is way too big even for the secondary.
Also, do you know what jets are in the idle circuits? They really do more fuel metering than anything else on a 22r cause it's really a relatively low revving engine for a Weber carb.
Bone stock you get from Weber for a 32/36 DGEV is as follows:
Primary idle(does most of the metering)-60
Secondary idle(when the secondary first starts opening)-50
Primary main-140
Secondary main-140
Primary air corrector-170
Secondary air corrector-160

Really, if you're going to try to change any jets in the carb, start with the idle circuits, then at least try changing the mains after some test runs. Set your timing, set your idle, then experiment with jets, by the way.

If I was you, down just under 1,900' elevation, I'd try this configuration
Primary idle-65
Secondary idle-55
Primary main-140
Secondary main-145
And leave the air correctors alone.
That was a good setup for me when I was driving down to around 2,000' every couple weekends, but was also a decent enough tune when I was at home around 4,000' elevation. The biggest difference between our engines would be the 20r head, so we should be close. I say should because sometimes Weber's are just finicky or there's vacuum leaks, despite anybody's best efforts.

Glad you got rid of the e3's, too. I had a couple of them fall apart on me, went back to NGK's gapped to .055 since I have a Jacob's ignition.

My truck is running way better now and I've gone 25 miles and the gauge has barely moved but it falls on it's ass in 3rd gear and feels under powered but that's a 22r for ya. And I know it's kinda off topic but when my truck sits and cools down it takes a few seconds for the oil pressure to build up like 3 seconds. But if it's still warm it goes right up. Does this sound okay? And yes my oil filter has the anti drain back valve. Could it be because of winter and I'm running 10w-30 and Lucas in it?
