Wow there sure are a lot of hidden treasures out there. These older trucks look so nice when they are all cleaned up. I know I posted mine in a different thread but thought I would post a couple here.

My first love was an 81 SR5 Long bed 4x4. It is a long story but I have owned her six different time. Unfortunatly she is no longer in this world. I now have second gen 85 4x4 but this thread is making me want to sell this rare efi for another 81. It brings me hope to know that there are still some nice first gens out there being taken care of.

While I can do exterior repairs and resto. The majority of the trucks I have come accross are thrashed on the inside. I can't seem to find a company that is selling new dash boards, door panels, and the facia covers for where the radio goes/ heat controls are. My 81 had the wood color facia cover and a tan dash board that looked brand new when I sold it 8 years ago. Yes, that is because it was new, all be it 25 years old but still in the factory toyota plastic bag. My uncle worked for a toyota dealership that had old toyota parts in storage tucked back in their warehouse forgotten and it had a new dash, and all the parts for the covers ect I even got a new set of the chrome SR5 wheels. I now wish I hadn't sold it again last time. Now I am mad at my self again, The guy I sold it to destroyed it literaly, as in non recoverable error. Any way where do you get these parts even in after market?

When I restored my '83 I asked the dealer about a new dash and they said it was discontinued...I tried a few dealers in my area..The only dash you can get from my internet research is a plastic cover that goes over the existing the dash it self, which actually looks stock...But I did buy a new dash bezel from the dealer which was nice...I had to take a second out on my house for that part, . luckily most of my interior door panels, ect were in good shape I just took them off and cleaned them and painted some parts.. Agreed it's tough to find for a clean interior on these trucks...

I found a great interior for mine. You've just got to get lucky...usually if the interior is in great shape, so is the rest of the truck, so you're not going to be pulling parts off of it. But if somebody happens to wreck one of those trucks...that's where I got lucky.

Personally, I strongly believe in using what you have. Paint it, fix it, patch it...whatever. If that doesn't work, look for a good used part on ebay or maybe a junk yard and restore that one. Of course if you happen to find anything for these trucks at the dealer then jump all over it if you can afford it.
