Help!

okay, it's been a while since I've popped in, lurking mostly, but still have and enjoy my '83, she's running strong as ever! However I have a couple questions I couldn't locate on the Search of this forum. So any info is greatly appreciated.

First, I have a clutch fluid leak inside the cab, looks like a seal gone bad. Has anyone here had to replace it, where to get one and a DIY thread somewhere on how to swap it out?

Secondly, one of my original door speaker covers popped off somewhere and is gone! I've been looking for a replacement, don't care if they're after market.

Thanks again for any replies... much appreciated!

1. Sounds like a tired clutch master cylinder is allowing fluid to flow into the cab through the shaft, time for a replacement. Get it squared away quick, though! Brake fluid contains Xylene which can strip your paint and allow for rust.

2. Have you checked with the dealership for the speaker cover? They tend to have a few plastic and soft parts available. RockAuto is a great resource for small bits, too.

Ha. Thanks RobotMoose! Well, the cow skull was recently replaced when a deer skull with intact antlers presented itself. Originally it was a goat skull, which I kinda liked better and may switch out... It's a strange ride, to be sure... Property values instantly drop when I drive through a neighborhood!

I like the multiple skull option!
I have black bear skull I'd found on a hike that I sometimes put up on the dash.

Thanks a ton for the info! Got your PM! Much appreciated! As for the speaker cover, no I haven't checked with the Dealer, I'll give'em a try, and I'll check out RockAuto too! Thanks man!

Bigger Tires

Hey all, been running 31's since I picked up my Toy a few years ago... (man, where does the time go?) Thinking about going with 33's. I have plenty of suspension clearance, question is, is re-gearing a must? I have a 5sp and takes getting up to about 60mph before I ever see 5th. Thoughts? Suggestions? ...before I just throw on some bigger tires. Thanks in advance!

You can get away with 33s, but it'll be slow.
If you don't have a lot of hills to pull daily then you can manage, just don't expect to go anywhere fast. You'll have what the old timers would call a "rubber overdrive", your taller tires would effectively shortened your gears by about 12-15%.
The good news is that your MPGs will go up slightly.

Yea, struggling to get into 5th gear at 60mph... 33's aren't going to help that at all, & you will most likely burn more clutch at the stop lights.

Maybe find something "cooler" that is closer to the 31's.? (or if you're set on going bigger, so with 32, instead)
