Look what I did today:

(notice old hanger remains under the other box mount)

Shortened the wheelbase 9 1/4" and threw the flatdeck on for the first time, Il get better pictures soon, its hard to take em in the dark/snow. Weird thing is this barley affected the pinion angle and it actually changed the entire F/R weight ratio on the truck, now theres more weight over the rear axle so.. more traction, better turning radius, better clearance... lost flex but the advantages far outweigh that. It also didnt lift the rear end at all which is really good because I dont have enough driveshaft/pinion angle to go any taller in the front. So... My truck is officially stock shortbox length!

Well I went and picked up a 1983 SR5 longbed with 22R, 5speed, and power steering last night for a cool $1200 with an inspection that lasts until next feb. Only 136k on the ticker.

The P.O. got the truck at auction in Mass. and was going to give it to his son, but I happened to drive by, and we all know money talks

When he got it, it had NH temp tags and a title from NH. Stickers on the gem top and lame rear bumper seem to indicate a Californian heritage. If anyone can do a carfax for me shoot me a PM please.

The body is a little rough and the frame has a little scale, but overall it is in better shape than my '89 that I paid almost as much for, and it isn't IFS

on with the pics

The floor is actually not bad, but there is a spot where it's gone through

It also has this lame foot wide chrome rear bumper that my gf said was blinding her the whole time she was following me home

Plans are a mild lift, better brakes (you guys aren't kidding these stockers suck) some armor, gears, tires and lockers.. standard stuff

^ Thats a shortbed, looks to be in pretty damn good shape besides the obvious rust issue but no worries, it looks great.

I wouldnt! that box is still good enough to fix. I just picked up a stock shortbox for my rig to replace my flatbed, Ive barley driven it and I already hate having to tie everything down and its $300 of steel and a few hours to modify vs. $100 for a fixable bed! so I think im on the right track.

I really want to put a flat bed on my 82, but have other things to spend the money on right now.

woops!

sorry about the shortbed/longbed thing.. I'm new to these older ones.. the box seems a lot longer than the shortbox that was on my '89?

either way, I've hit a snag..

I can't get it registered in NY right now because the DMV won't accept the paperwork I have (no title just registration permit with transfer stuff signed, and all the NY paperwork filled out/signed) NH DMV says cars/trucks older than 15years don't need a title but to sell them you have to fill out special forms and get them notarized and crap???? NY DMV says this truck should definitely have a title even if it's from NH

can anyone offer any advice on this? I just looked up the number for the previous owner on whitepages.com but I'd rather not bother her out of the blue, as I didn't buy the truck from her I got it from a guy that got it at auction

apologies if I should start a new thread for this.. let me know and I'll delete it

also if I can get it on the road I plan on saving the box.. it could be worse imo (like the one on the '89 for instance)
