Just a quick question, I am trying to determine what the original carb was on my 1981 2WD 22R long bed truck. I just bought the truck from a guy that says he rebuilt the carb.

Right now it is Aisan 2A14 Toy-500
Is that the right one?

You might try taking that number to the dealer parts dept, they might be able to look it up and tell you if its right or not.

 

yea I will probaby have to do that. Im new to toyotas, I have never even heard of Aisan I thought it was misspelled asian. ha!

 

If i remember right, Aisan, Asco, and Denso are OEM parts for toyota.

 

Aisan and Asco are definately stock Toyota parts. The hubs on my 82 are Aisan and the hubs on my dads 80 are Asco. The carb on my 82 22R is an Aisan. Not sure on the number of it though.

 

are these carbs? ive heard that weber carbs are better and worth the money.

 

Stick with your stock carb, better in the long run

 

will removing the emissions stuff from the carb make it run weird?

 

I've got a Canadian model truck and if I remember correctly I only have 6 vacuum lines on the motor. I don't see why it wouldn't run well if you took off all of the Cali stuff. One thing that I think is different on our carbs is the idle mixture screw is different. I remember looking in my FSM and the Cali models were different from mine.

 

i dont think i have a cali model but i sure do have a whole lot of vacuum hoses. would it be safe to assume most of them are emissions related.

Hey - saw it was your first post and wanted to say welcome - even though I know NOTHING about Aisin carbs...

 

there should be a metal tag on the carb with 5 numbers on it...something like 51030 or something (im sure thats not the correct numbers) Its attached with a screw near the top/middle, and supposed to be a shiny thin metal tag. Prolly covered in gunk being this old, but that number is what you will need to compare to.

 

thanks guys! i got it figured out which one i got and decided to stick with it instead of going to a weber. motor should be going back in next weekend.
