Clicking noise from front axle

Clicking noise from front axle
A few weeks ago my 81 has started making a clicking noise in the front axle similar to a worn CV. It only does it on some hard turns or on off-camber stuff like dips in the road or turning down a hill. It also does it all the time of bumpy dirt roads.
At first I thought it might a bad hub sticking and engaging the axle shaft but I jacked up the right front wheel took the hub off and spun the wheel and it clicks intermittently with the shaft stationary. It makes a bit of a bearing noise so now I'm figuring a bad wheel bearing even though I've never heard a bearing click before. Any other suggestions on what may be the problem?

Sounds like it's probably a wheel bearing to me. I had one make the same kind of sounds before in my Metro. If you don't know how old they are or what they've been through it certainly wouldn't hurt to change them.

Well I know its not the hub sticking because as I mentioned I removed the hub and it was still clicking just spinning the wheel by hand. I figured it was a bearing. I'm not super concerned as I'm doing an axle and suspension swap in the next month. Was just curious what it might be and hope not to have any drastic failure before I can do the swap.
