charging issue

To start off its a 83 4x4 just put a remaned alternator on it but yet if she sets for a day it will be dead. Checked to make sure i didnt leave the lights on and i didnt. Have no idea what would be killing the battery any ideas would be greatly appreciated. But it is a good way to work out roll starting it by yourself on a flat driveway

When you get a new alternator, it's best to get a new battery or make sure that your old battery is putting out good amperage and is well charged. The reason being is that the alternator "works harder" to recharge that dead battery. Get the battery tested and/or replaced. That will probably solve your problems.

Just wondering if you've got any toggles that may be left on or maybe something else is draining it . Good Luck !

No theres no toggles i thought about putting in one of those battery kill switches to c if that would help. Could i possibly be the ground wire to my battery not grounded any more so the circuits not complete for it to charge up

I have a similar issue in mine. Takes a few days for mine to "trickle drain" the bat. I think I just need to go around and clean up all the grounds ect. Curious to see what you find on yours.

Some things to check:

Are your battery terminals making good contact?

Is your battery ground / engine strap in good shape and making good contact with the block?

Get a multimeter, test bettery voltage with vehicle off, and with vehicle running. Are you charging?

How is your belt tension? The alternator belt can be difficult to properly tension. I use a long (24") pry-bar to pull out/tension the alternator, and I also double-nut the bolt that threads into the alternator at the top.

How is your voltage regulator doing?

Is the charge cable making good contact with your alternator, and with your battery?

Good luck!

about the neg battery ground it may definatly help to have a good solid connection . " the guy at the shop told me it would be a better ground mounting mine on the block" , and its been working fine except when I leave a toggle on .

Voltage regulator is on the drivers side inner fender. It will be a black or gold box secured to the inner with two 12 mil bolts. Your year should have a 6 pin oval shaped wiring harness connector.
