I have an 84 4Runner and a 85 truck, both are carbed and run just fine, when you rebuilt the carb are you sure that you got everything back together corectly ?, what about the vacuum line, are they all in the corect places ?.

yea i actualy did it wrong the first time and went back in and fixed it. im pretty sure i got all the vacuum right according to the FSM. i just opened up the exhaust. i think maybe it just needs to breath more, maybe some bigger jets? i cant find anywhere that sells jets kits or anyone else that has rejetted them.

from what ive read here and on other forums, the jets from a weber carb will fit our stock carbs.

Have you checked for vacuum leaks? That can cause a rough idle. Check the EGR bolts on the intake side, mainly the large bolt that connects the EGR valve to the tube. It needs to be tight to get a good seal. Spray some carb cleaner on it and see if your idle changes. If it does, then you have a vacuum leak.

thats a good idea to try with the carb spray, but i know the egr is tight; ive been over that system twice. im starting to think that its just a worn out carb, throttle shafts may be worn causing internal vacuum leak, throttle plates out of round, etc...i still want a weber, anyone want to donate to the poor college student new carb fund?
