Broken locker or axle shaft?
#21
So I found a guy who has some extras he will sell me. And I have the shaft out. But I can't figure out how to take the rest of it out of the drum. Is there something I'm missing or is there a special way to get it out? Thanks.

Yeah you can't do the "shade tree mechanic" method...because it involves holding the drum and slamming the axle into a block of wood on the ground as hard as you can...
But you're minus an axle.
There's a local radiator and offroad shop in my town that pressed all my old bearings off and new bearings on my transfer case shafts for free...
Call a machine shop or local garage and ask if they'll press it off, and the new one on. Worst case is costs you $50 or something.

You HAVE to press it off and believe me, it is a major PITA without the right tools. I used a 20 ton press and had to finagle a few 1" solid steel blocks to press against to get the drum back plate off. My suggestion to you? Take this opportunity to do a rear disc brake conversion! That's exactly what I did
