Anyone had clutch lines freeze?
#23
Well...never can tell because the problem has been kind of coming & going, but it seems to work now. I think I need to adjust the clutch pedal, because it's now engaging really close to the floor, and it feels a little soft. Could be that I didn't bleed it well enough?
I used a hand pump to bleed it; is there anything special I need to do with that? I just opened the bleeder valve, hooked the hose up to it and started pumping, and made sure there was always fluid in the reservoir so no air would get in. Is that it? I kept seeing air bubbles coming into the hose out of the bleeder valve, but I don't know if that's coming in from the bleeder valve because it's sucking some air past the threads, or what, but no matter how long I pumped I saw some bubbles coming out, so...
Anyone have any ideas, or do I just need to adjust the pedal a bit?

Sometimes I feel like I'm talking to myself.
Well I searched like I should have in the first place. Think I'll just use the FSM proceedure for bleeding, and adjust the pushrod a bit and see where that gets me.

When its really cold these clutch pedals don't like to respond very well. Anything below -20*F here and they don't feel as they do when its warmer. And its -20*F here a lot. I had a problem with my 82 a while back where the slave cyl was leaking and it'd go into gear but would grab right fast and go because it was leaking down so fast. Had to shut the motor off put it in gear then crank it to go again. But changing the slave fixed that.

Yeah, they don't like this kind of cold! Luckily we've got a forecasted high of around 20 today, so I may get around to bleeding and adjusting things...probably wait until the weekend, though. When my truck's "good enough" to drive, and it's single digits out, it's easy for me to be lazy...and after replacing the master cylinder it is good enough to drive. Just egaging really close to the floor still. None of the original problems of not going into gear or moving with the clutch in instead of out.

Just a quick question for you guys up north. Have you had problems with a grinding noise coming from the front end in cold weather. I believe I have bearings going out, but it only acts up when it gets to the 20's here.

No I haven't necessarily had that issue, but on my '86 & '87 pickups, if there was a grinding coming from one of the front wheels, it was always a hub bearing. Not sure if that's what you've got going on though. It would make sense, though. Actually now that I think about it it would always start acting up in the cold.
