92 F150 leaf springs?
hey guys i have an 83 toyota pickup 4x4, my buddy found a set of leaf springs off the rear of a 92 f150 for FREE that he thought i could use(he was thinking they were the chevy 63" but mixed things up i guess) so he picked them up for me but can i do anything with these? i give him credit for trying considering he drives a little civic

Leaf Springs are leaf springs. There is nothing wrong with being original.

hey jon, thank you for responding to many of my questions. i have found that they are 3 inches wide but im not sure how long they are yet, does this just mean i need to find wide enough shackles? and will these create some lift for me? i guess it would depend how long they are

i had a friend that used f150 springs in the front of his 81 they flexed pretty well and gave him bout 2-3" of lift. i dont know what year he pulled them out of though.. toss them in you will need to make new shackles cuz its a wider leaf, i believe 3" is the same width as the 63"chevies im running in the rear and you might have to lengthen driveline but very doubtfull. are you putting them in the front or the rear? if its front then you might have to do some steering modification as well. also if you want more lift you can achieve that when you are making the shackles.

Becaus these are three inch wide springs, you are going to have to do some fab work on the spring hangers and yes, you will need different shackles. These are easy to come by though.
I think waskillywabbit has some? correct me if I am wrong someone, or many other sites like trailgear, all pro offroad, sky manufacturing etc...
I think you might want to do a bit more research about a 3" wide spring conversion. If you don't have the ability to do some mild fabrication, you might be better off waiting for a different set of springs that are 2.5" wide.

thanks, i understand the concept of the shackles and hangers but i have also read with some leaf springs that you have to move the hanger forward for the leaf springs to fit? i dont really get this and how would you go about doing something like that? it will move your axle forward giving you better tire clearence? but i know there is more to it

i was accually thinking about this all day in school today haha and i came to the conclusion that a fairly cheap way to lift my truck would be with the f150 springs in the rear and then put my stock rears up front with a banana shackle. the only thing that really worries me is the whole moving of the hangers thing because i know i cant do that yet.

If you can find a bolt on front spring hanger for the rear and same thing for the rear hanger up front, it might be just a slap together thing. You would still need new ubolt plates for the rear and probably shock mounts but...it could work. Just do some research.
